Kingborough Lions United FC Announces Coaching Transition in WSL Program

Kingborough Lions United FC would like to advise our members, players, supporters and the wider football community that Women’s Super League Head Coach Simon Edwards has advised the Club that, upon completion of his current two-year agreement, he has elected not to seek a further term in the role and will step down at the conclusion of the 2026 season.

Simon has played a significant role in the continued development of our WSL program and women’s football at KLUFC, contributing not only to on-field performance but also to the culture, growth and professionalism of the program. On behalf of the Board, players and members, we sincerely thank Simon for his commitment, passion and leadership.

While stepping away from WSL coaching, Simon’s involvement with the club will continue as he turns his attention to supporting the broader development of football across Kingborough Lions United. His experience, knowledge and dedication to the club will remain an important asset as we continue to strengthen all areas of our football program.

As part of this transition, the Club has been undertaking a review of the WSL program to identify opportunities for growth and improvement, ensuring we continue to provide the best possible environment for our current and future female footballers. This review includes player consultation, feedback from key stakeholders and consideration of how the program can further align with the Club’s broader football philosophy and pathways.

The Club will also commence a recruitment process for a new Women’s Super League Head Coach, with further information to be released in the coming weeks.

Kingborough Lions United remains committed to investing in women’s football and building a strong, sustainable pathway that provides opportunities for female players at every level of the game.

We thank Simon for his outstanding contribution and look forward to celebrating his achievements with the WSL program throughout the remainder of the season.
