Jon Fenech to Depart Kingborough Lions United

Kingborough Lions United FC advises that Sporting Director and NPL Men’s Head Coach
Jon Fenech will depart the Club following his decision to return to Queensland to be
closer to his daughter.

Jon has made a significant contribution to KLUFC over the past two years, culminating in a
memorable 2026 season which included winning the Lakoseljac Cup, qualifying for the
Australia Cup Round of 32 for the first time and hosting Melbourne Victory at Lightwood
Park.

Jon said the decision to leave Tasmania had been incredibly difficult but was ultimately
about family.

“After two years living away from my daughter, I feel the time is right for me to be closer
to her and more present during these important years of her life.”

“I’ll always be grateful to Kingborough Lions United and the people associated for giving me the opportunity to be part of it.”

KLUFC President Brian Downes thanked Jon for his contribution to the Club.

“Jon has made an enormous contribution to Kingborough, both through the results
achieved on the pitch and the development of our Men’s High-Performance
program. His commitment and passion have left a lasting mark on the Club, and we
thank him for everything he has contributed over the past two years.”

Jon will work with the Club to ensure a smooth transition, with further announcements
regarding the NPL Men’s program to follow.
