Kingborough Lions United FC Achieves Football Australia 3-Star Club Changer Status
Kingborough Lions United FC is proud to announce that we have achieved Football Australia’s 3-Star Club Changer accreditation, recognising our commitment to creating a safe, inclusive, sustainable, and well-governed football club for our members and community. This achievement was also celebrated by Football Tasmania in May, naming KLUFC the Club Changer of the Month for Volunteers.
The Club Changer Program is Football Australia’s national club development framework, designed to help clubs strengthen governance, safeguarding, participation, inclusion, infrastructure, workforce development, and long-term sustainability.
Achieving 3-Star status is the result of significant work undertaken across the club over the past two seasons. This has included:
- Development and implementation of comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Ongoing safeguarding education and training for volunteers, coaches, and staff.
- Establishment of safeguarding leadership and Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) support.
- Continued investment in diversity, inclusion, and positive club culture initiatives.
- Environmental sustainability improvements, including LED lighting upgrades, recycling initiatives, and waste reduction measures.
- Completion of major infrastructure projects, including seating upgrades delivered through volunteer support and community partnerships.
- Ongoing strategic planning for future facility improvements and club growth.
As part of the accreditation process, the club successfully completed Football Australia’s development modules covering:

- Women & Girls in Football
- Governance
- Strategy, Roles & Responsibilities
- Diversity & Inclusion
- Infrastructure
- Values & Behaviours
- Finance
- Workforce Development
- Participation
- Stakeholder Alignment
- Technology & Digital
- Marketing & Communications
While achieving 3-Star status is an important milestone, it is not the end of the journey.
The Club Changer framework encourages continual improvement, and the club has already adopted a new action plan focused on strengthening safeguarding practices, volunteer recognition, workforce development, environmental sustainability, technology management, business continuity planning, and community engagement initiatives over the coming seasons.
Club President Brian Downes said:

We are proud of what has been achieved, but equally excited about the work still ahead as we continue to improve the experience for everyone involved with Kingborough Lions United.”
