Prep and Primary School Youth Players

These players at Kingborough Lions United Football Club are the true grass roots of the club. The Discovery Phase of development is all about developing a love for the game as they experience if for the first time. Activities are exciting, fun/enjoyable and stimulating. Training includes lots of movement, ball contact and encouragement.
The club prides itself on its junior participation and how the players represent the club in such good spirit.

Development

There are three key phases of development for youth players as they progress through primary school:

  • Discovery Phase – Active Start (Stage 1) 4-6 Years

  • Discovery Phase – Fundamental (Stage 2) 6-8 Years

  • Skill Acquisition Phase – Learning to Train (Stage 3) 9-12 Years

Format

Discovery Phase football is played using small-sided games and is a friendly way to enter the sport and have some fun. Small-sided games are designed to focus on enjoyment and freedom of expression.

Rosters

Our Discovery Programs run all year round during school terms. Winter competition rosters commence late April/early May each season.
Rosters for the winter season are released by Central Region Junior Football Association (CRJFA) in mid to late April each year.

Cancellations

Assume rostered games are going ahead unless you have been advised by your team manager or coach. Cancellations are decided by CRJFA not individual teams.
