The club started trading as Kingborough Lions United Football Club (in keeping with Football Federation Australia and its associations)

1999 saw the continued consolidation of the Lions with representation in top-flight competitions going forward from this year.
Consolidation
1998
1998 was seen as a year of consolidation for the new club with the plan being to maintain all teams in their present leagues, which was achieved successfully.
Caledonians Merger
1998
ShKingborough Lions United SC was formed in 1998 following a merger between Kingborough United SC and West Hobart Lions SC. (West Hobart Lions SC had previously been known as “Caledonian SC” prior to the banning of ethnic based names by Soccer Australia).
A Lion was used as the emblem of both clubs. The post-merger club crest displays two Lions – one for each original club. The crest is made up of a striped shield displaying the club initials, a football (the sport played) and the full club name. A motto, “Sic Corda Lionum” (translated this roughly means “Compete with the heart of a Lion”) completes the crest.ort Description
Kingborough Lions SC
1996
Kingborough United SC was a long standing strength in the southern-based Premier League and was the result of several previous mergers. In 1996 the Tasmanian Baseball Complex became available and the Club, together with the Kingston Crows Cricket Club, were granted long term tenancy of the Complex now known as Lightwood Park
Caledonian SC
1956-1996
Caledonian SC (West Hobart Lions SC) was one of the longest serving clubs in the Tasmanian State League. The Club initially had a very large component of Scottish players, however, over a number of years Scottish migrants to Tasmania gradually diminished. During its forty years the Club had many temporary homes but had yet to establish permanent facilities. Training was undertaken at West Hobart Oval.
